Reflecting on the Present

Aerial view of cars driving down main street in Lynn, Massachusetts

Central Square, Lynn, MA || 27 October 2015

I have journeyed up the Newburyport/Rockport line quite a bit in the past few weeks, mostly to observe the spooky happenings in Salem in the days leading up to Halloween. One of the stops along the way is in the center of Lynn. The opportunity to explore the area has never presented itself, but I always admire my view of the city from my train window. Most of the residents of Lynn probably never see their main street from this point of view, yet here I am, a commuter, enjoying a glimpse of their life without knowing anything about their daily lives, the best cafés, or the last week of headlines from the local paper. Curiosity creeps into my mind for the ninety seconds while the train is loading passengers, I make a mental note to visit and explore, and then I usually end up scrolling through the same ten photos on my Instagram and forget Lynn altogether.

This may be my last autumn in New England, so I’ve set a personal goal to explore and document as much as I can before I’m cooped up in my apartment due to snow. For the rest of the season, I’m making life happen instead of simply allowing it to pass before me.

I’m coming for you, Lynn.
