North Carolina Museum of Art

Raleigh || 2 October 2016

October has begun and I could not be more excited about it! Any day now I will be enjoying the crisp air, changing leaves, and not sweating through my shirts even day. I have even started decorating for Halloween– my golden skull candle is displaying itself proudly on my desk (as if it hasn’t been there all year) ((it has)).

I took some time this afternoon to talk photos and film with my friend Sam and the North Carolina Museum of Art. We finally live in the same city and I’m really enjoying his companionship. Having to verbalize what I have learned about photography for the past three years proved to be a difficult task! Everything seems to work together so seamlessly yet so intracately– it took a lot out of me to break down and talk through what happens inside a camera and how to make the most of every exposure. Our good friend MaryRobert agreed to be our muse and model for the day.

The North Carolina Museum of Art originally opened in 1956 in downtown Raleigh and was lovingly nicknamed “The Miracle on Morgan Street.” It was the first museum in the country funded solely with state funds. The Morgan Street facility eventually proved unfit for the art it housed– plagued by humidity and inconsistent temperature, as well as a small footprint, the art that it housed began to show signs of damage. The state legislature appointed a commission to find a newer, and more permanent, home for the museum. Now located on Blue Ridge Road, the museum owns two holdings and a vast outdoor area, where concerts and other community events are held.

The three of us explored inside, outside, and all around the newer of the two buildings at the museum. We then enjoyed the sunset on the walking trail and headed downtown for a delicious supper at Sitti.

I have some exciting trips planned for the coming weeks. I can’t wait to show you all about them! In the meantime, if you have any inquiries, reach out to me on my contact page or shoot me an email!
