Lincoln, New Hampshire || 30 January 2016
I had the pleasure of taking a day off with a few of my best friends from work to journey up to White Mountain National Forest. I had never been before and I knew the mountains would look stellar this time of year. The drive up was a bit tedious– not significantly longer than any other day trip I’ve taken, but 93 North seemed to be nothing but a long stretch of emptiness.
Nonetheless, the four of us made it to Lincoln, New Hampshire in about two hours’ time and immediately started to take advantage of the breathtaking terrain. A light snow was falling. We stopped at a ski resort and asked if we could bring a dog on the lift up the mountain (sadly, the answer was no) but ended up stepping down to a river and taking some photos there.
My favorite part of the trip was driving the Kancamagus Highway, the road that travels right through the entirety of the national forest. We have a number of stops along our way, including an unplowed parking lot in which I almost stranded the four of us. A few good samaritans helped push us out. Amongst other stops were a beautiful hairpin turn which overlooked the valley below us and a nature trail that was covered in a healthy blanket of snow.
As our day came to a close, we ate at a relatively authentic Mexican restaurant with a pool table and a giant cactus with Christmas lights wrapped around it. We also stopped at a liquor outlet right we crossed back into Massachusetts to pick up some discounted booze. 😉
