Beloved Boone

Boone, NC || 7 September 2016

After following her for almost a mile, the forest opened up to a grassy field. I was speechless.

I had the opportunity to visit a few college friends in the mountains over Labor Day weekend. We shopped around in downtown and went hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Boone is the home of Appalachian State University, known most widely for its victory over Michigan in a football game one autumn morning in 2007. The town is full of great restaurants, genuine people, and breathtaking views.

My friend MaryRobert was in town for her weekend gig and offered to show my brother and me some of the most scenic places in the immediate area. It didn’t take long for me to realize that there are too many to count– we needed up spending two hours at a single site. Thunder Hill, where we stopped, is one of the most popular outlooks along Blue Ridge Parkway.

MaryRobert brought some of her friends along as well, so we had lots of fun finding different pairings and poses.

The following morning I woke up much earlier than I normally do. Instead of falling back asleep, I decided to meander along the parkway again to catch the sunrise. I fell in love with the fog on the ground and the way it reflected the golden morning light from the sun. I decided to stop on the side of the road between two cattle farms. After the sun rose, I stood by the fence of one of the farms and the cows walked right over to me! Those curious animals for a few fun shots.

I had such a great time in the mountains. I like the feeling of being small, connected with nature, and away from the bustle of everyday life. It centers and inspires me like no other place does. Do you prefer to get away to the mountains or to the coast? Why?
